International Collaboration in Human Spaceflight: A Conversation with Dr. Jeanette Epps, NASA Astronaut

Please join the Center for Strategic and International Studies for a Smart Women, Smart Power and Aerospace Security Project conversation with NASA Astronaut Dr. Jeanette Epps. She will discuss her pathbreaking experiences as an astronaut and the importance of international cooperation in space.

Dr. Epps was a NASA Fellow during graduate school and selected as an astronaut in 2009, one of 14 members of the 20^th NASA astronaut class. In 2017, she was chosen for the June 2018 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) but was later withdrawn from it. She currently serves in the International Space Station Operations Branch working on issues in support of space station crews.

Prior to becoming an astronaut, Dr. Epps worked as a Technical Specialist in the Scientific Research Laboratory at Ford Motor Company for two years. Her research resulted in a provisional patent for work on vehicle suspension control arms and a U.S. patent for work on automobile collision location detection and countermeasure systems.

After leaving Ford, she joined the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for seven years where she worked as a Technical Intelligence Officer.

Dr. Epps holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from LeMoyne College and earned a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from LeMoyne College in 2016.
