Colonel Jesse J. Friedel is an Air Force fellow at CSIS in Washington, D.C. As part of the CSIS International Security Program, he provides Air Force and military expertise related to national security and defense. He is a command pilot with over 2,500 flight hours, primarily in the F-16, and has flown missions for homeland defense and in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Prior to his fellowship, he was the air and sea branch chief in the Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment Directorate (J-8) on the Joint Staff. Colonel Friedel graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1996 with a B.S. in general engineering. He also holds an M.B.A. in finance from Touro University International and an M.S. in operational analysis from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology.
